The ninth annual St. George Greek Oktoberfest, one of the year’s most anticipated cultural festivals in Stark County, will bring the sights, smells and sounds of Greece to Massillon for four fun-filled days.

The festival, scheduled for Oct. 4-7 at the St. George Cultural Center, 364 First St. SE, Massillon, will feature a delectable selection of Greek cuisine and pastries, infectious Greek dances and rhythms, and continuous live entertainment.

Festival times are as follows:

4-9 pm, Thursday (Oct. 4)

11 am - 10 pm, Friday and Saturday (Oct. 5 and 6)

11 am - 3 pm, Sunday (Oct. 7)

Drive-Thru Thurs./Fri. 11-6

This year’s menu will include Greek pizza and a baked pasta dish called pastitsio, along with other favorites like lamb, souvlaki and baked chicken. Save room for delicious Greek pastries, baked by the ladies of St. George’s Philoptochos Society.

St. George also is pleased to announce the return of its very own Junior Dance Troupe, which will complement the performances by other local dance troupes. Also, returning this year as the featured entertainment over four days is the Aegean Duo, a two-man band from Rochester, N.Y. The Aegean Duo is Steve Tavelaris on bouzouki and lead vocals and Nick Mouganis on bouzouki and other instruments.

In the spacious, comfortable environs of the Cultural Center, visitors will be able to enjoy Greek food, drinks and pastries, patronize vendors, and participate in a silent auction for a variety of attractive theme baskets. Admission, parking and entertainment is free.

Greek Oktoberfest is St. George’s largest fundraiser and, as such, lays the primary foundation for the parish’s community outreach work in the coming year. Among its social programs is a weekly food distribution that serves Massillon residents who are most in need.

The public also will have an opportunity to learn more about Orthodox Christian beliefs, worship and icons through tours of the church building led by Fr. Yanni Verginis, senior pastor. St. George is a parish of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, Metropolis of Pittsburgh.

ADVERTISING OPPORTUNITIES

Every year, the Oktoberfest Album Committee publishes and distributes a program book during the four-day event. Advertising revenue from the book helps support the vital social ministries of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Massillon, including a weekly food distribution.

That’s where you come in! During these difficult economic times, we invite you to participate by placing your own advertisement in the festival album. Your ad will be seen by thousands of festival-goers and will go a long way toward helping those less fortunate.

Join local and regional businesses, non-profit organizations and well-wishers by placing an ad in the program book. Quarter-, half- and full-page space is available. This year, we also will feature business card-size ads on our festival place mats.

The deadline was Sept. 17, 2012 for this year’s festival.  Please check back next year!
